Seems like all toys from China have lead these days.

you know if it doesnt say it on the box, i wouldn't buy it. But there is a websit that lists all the recalled toys, but i dont recall what the name is

It has to say where the toy is made on the box somewhere, but i can already tell you its probably china. Some local health organizations have free toy testing in some communities. They will actually take your toy and test it for you.

If it came from China, it will have a little sticker that says "CE" (Chinese export). I wouldn't worry about lead. One, it's only a problem if the child is eating large quantities of the toy, two it's only a problem if that child continues to eat lead over a span of years. Lead, much like asbestos, is only a problem in large quantities over long spans of time.

You worry WAY too much. I'd be more worried about how your kid is going to avoid being paranoid if this is how you handle every decision about a toy he isn't going to put in his mouth if he is old enough to enjoy it in the first place and which most likely is unpainted colored plastic.

CE DOES NOT mean "Chinese Export": it means it's certifying compliance with European health and safety directives.
You can't make any conclusions about country of origin based on the CE mark.

Check the Consumer Product Safety Commission site at cpsc.gov for safety and recall information.
