The Thing

Description:

I found this on a bank of the Buffalo river in Tennessee. It's hollow and looks like stone. A petrified cocoon? Fossil? A friend of a friend was somebody once upon a time at a university. No one there knew what this thing was. Anybody?

I'm not sure what that thing on the right is, but I'm pretty sure the other one is an American Quarter. ;^)
